This has been quite an adventure. It started three days ago and I have been working on it since. At about 9:00 tonight I finally got it. It has been an exhausting project but it was fun to look back on what I have done and know that it will help those who are coming after me. That was my biggest takeaway from this project...that I was going to create multimedia projects that were going to directly impact the EDIT 690 students of the future. I enjoyed looking back over my time as a M.Ed. student and see how far I have come. I owe a lot to the Instructional Technology program and the professors that make it as great as it is. It has been a great experience and I can't wait to see how it will be used.

The conversations between Dr. D. and myself led us in a different direction than we first talked about. We decided that creating something to help the students with the actual creation of the TTE and Portfolio would be the most beneficial thing I could do. So, I created 4 multimedia products, 2 videos and 2 PowerPoint presentations, that give current 690 students insight in to the creation process for both of their big projects. The videos focus mainly on the possible pitfalls of each and how to avoid them, tips for getting started, and insights that, I hope, will help smooth their path. The PowerPoint presentations focus on what they can actually use for the content of the projects. In the TTE presentation I share 11 of my favorite tools and apps to help get their minds thinking about possible TTE topics. In the Portfolio presentation I discuss website design sites, video editors, and audio editors. The goal was to give them a quick reference guide to things they could use to help create the best products they could.
Overall, I am very pleased with the products and Dr. D. is as well. It is a very good feeling to know that I could provide products that could possibly help students avoid some of the things I had to go through as a 690 student. Below are the multimedia products I created:
Dr. D asked me to do a "help" video for the students as they begin to prepare for the TTE (symposium). It was tough going at first trying to think back a few years to how I felt and what I struggled with. However, things started flowing and before long I had a script drafted. After a few emails, I was ready to create the video. I hope the 690 students find it helpful! I wish I would have had one when I was going through it.
I have created my scripts for both videos. Both scripts are good but they need to be fattened up a little. The problem I am having is I am out of ideas regarding the pitfalls of the TTE and portfolio creation. It is really hard to fatten up when there is nothing left on the bone. Or at least that is how I feel. It is hard to think back over three years and remember what I struggled with as a M.Ed. student. However, I think these videos are really going to help the next group of capstone students. I am excited to see how they will turn out and if they will be used. I wish someone had done this for us when we were going through it!
There was quite a bit more to this experience than I first thought. Dr. D. was great to work with. He was always helpful and accessible. We developed a plan and, for the most part, it worked out as intended. The amount of stuff to comb through was immense to me. Until I took this role looking at one of our courses, I never realized just how much documentation there was. Looking through the lens of instructor really gave me some valuable insight as to what it takes to conduct a course like 690. The fully online format adds a wrinkle that I was not expecting either. Everything has to be spelled out, down to the littlest detail, to ensure there is no gray area as to what is expected. Overall, it was a great experience for me professionally. I had to overcome many things to get this completed but I learned valuable lessons from it!
Weekly Moodle post edits...completed! It took me quite a while to get them all. I kept missing little details in each one. I hope the edits make using them next time a little easier. These are too many to post here so I will just post a few so you can get the idea of the process.
I finally finished combing through the EDIT 690 syllabus and have made all (I think!) the necessary edits. It was very time consuming considering how "small" the document actually is. As I looked through it I realized just how much the 690 capstone has changed since I took it. The symposium even has a new name. Dr. Dickerson was kind enough to give me access to the EDIT 690 course on Moodle. I am pulling the parts out one by one and editing the content, etc. to ensure that it meets the satisfaction of CCU, according to the QAI report.
The beginning to this experience has been more challenging than I first predicted. I am currently in the editing stage of current content. I find myself catering each individual artifact (syllabus, etc) to my individual liking, without taking much consideration of what others preferred. So, to help with this, I asked a few close colleagues to look at an example of what I had done and listened to feedback. Very valuable experience.
My field experience will be conducted at Coastal Carolina University under the supervision of Dr. Jeremy Dickerson, Professor and Coordinator of Instructional Technology Graduate Programs.
