Review Resources
I previewed each website to ensure that each site was unblocked, running, and there were no planned outages from the IT department. I then entered a few student passwords to ensure things were in correct working order and that rosters had been added where needed. The students have all had experience with logging in at various websites so they should be able to do this part of the process expediently. I also added shortcuts to the desktops of the laptops the students were using to help speed the process.
Prepare Resources
To prepare for the lessons, I downloaded a set of Daily 5 anchor charts to explain each station and what the student responsibilities were during each. Students are also provided with a Daily 5 checklist.

Prepare the Environment
The lesson took place over a period of three days during the ELA block using the station rotation model. Each student had a laptop from which to work. To ensure that I could easily monitor the students as they worked, I changed the arrangement of my room a little so that the students who chose a specific activity were seated within close proximity to one another. The students would work on their chosen activity for a period of twenty minutes. To ensure that students worked for the entire time period I posted a twenty minute timer on the board.
Prepare the Learners
I introduced the lesson to the students. We reviewed the student responsibilities during Read to Self, Word Work, and the other choices and I answered any questions they had about the assignment. I also reviewed with the students where they could find the information, if any, they needed to complete their chosen task.
To prepare the students for the lessons, we reviewed and discussed each Daily 5 choice on the menu, as well as what their responsibilities were during the work time. I explained to the children how selections would go and where each group would be working. I posted the anchor charts we created together at each station for quick and easy reference.
Provide the Learning Experience
The students were allowed to choose from the Daily 5 menu and move their Daily 5 ID card to their choice. Each student then got their assigned laptop and moved to the appropriate station to begin work. Although the stations were completely student centered, I monitored to ensure there were no technology issues and that the students were on task.
